Alison, Michael, Craig and Joe Sheffield 16th August 2005

Dear I.O.W.D.A.

My family and I have just returned from a most enjoyable holiday on the Isle of Wight and I Would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members of the I.O.W. DA. for their excellent organisation of the holiday meet at Beaper Farm

I had stayed at Beaper Farm as a child myself around 15 years ago (probably on a holiday meet organised by yourselves) with my parents and my brother just before he left to join the Royal Navy and had remembered the Isle with fond memories.

I returned with my Husband and my youngest Son last year but stayed at Whitecliffe Bay Holiday meet with another D.A. Whilst on holiday last year we popped into Beaper Farm and saw your meet there and decided that we would return to holiday on the Isle this year with yourselves but also with our eldest son in tow.

What a holiday we have had!!! I was a bit worried about bringing our eldest boy, who is 12 (thinks he is twelve-TEEN) and very fussy as I thought the Isle might perhaps not hold the same pleasures for him as it had for us - but he has thoroughly enjoyed himself, and is asking to return next year.

Your meet is the most organised that I have had the pleasure to attend. All the Stewards were most helpful - especially when on our arrival we found our fridge to be inoperable. A solution to how the fridge could be fixed was offered but also a leaflet containing the name of a servicing engineer who would be willing to help us if all else failed. Luckily, my husband, managed to fix the fridge following the given instructions and without any cost to ourselves. My youngest Son is diabetic and the team was most helpful in letting us store his insulin and emergency injection in the site fridge.

We visited many of the places for which you supplied information leaflets and kids (and parents) had a great time and the bad weather at the beginning of our first week was soon forgotten once the sun came out.

My eldest son was dragged to one of your entertainment evenings after much arguing that he would not attend an oldies evening with us only to be 'gob smacked' by the entertainer who was playing He is currently learning the guitar and is mad about it so he was absolutely in awe of Dave Graham's talents with his electric guitar and sat totally quiet and entertained all evening. Dave mentioned that he will be in Sheffield in December and my Son is determined to be able to go and see him again. I would never have believed that a D.A. could actually provide an entertainer who would stop my, near teenage, Son from moaning long enough for us to enjoy our evening but you have done it so congratulations and Thank you.

We have decided as a family that if we ever decide to up sticks and leave Sheffield that the Isle of Wight is where we are heading. The people we met were all so friendly and the holiday reminded me of how holidays were when I was little. The children were not ignored by anyone they spoke to, nor looked at as though they were going to be a nuisance or threat to anyone they came into contact with. They were allowed in shops alone to touch things - even if they didn't actually buy them and everyone they spoke to gave them a smile. When you come from a city like Sheffield with its' crime rate and population you realise as a parent how lovely it is for your children to be treated as children and not just seen as another couple of trouble makers. Both my husband and I have really appreciated this and even the kids have remarked how friendly everyone was to them.

Thank you once again for the excellent venue, entertainment, friendship and hospitality that you have offered. In our years as members of the Camping and Caravanning Club it is no less than we are used to but you really have excelled and we very much appreciate it.

I believe our holiday travels next year are taking us to France, but we will be returning to I.O.W. D.A. holiday meets at Beaper Farm in the future without a doubt.

With many thanks and regards

Alison Michael Craig Joe…………..
